What we do

We run outdoor work sessions through the year, getting the group outside and active. It’s heavy, physical labour, often dirty and sometimes cold and wet. We work hard:
  • We clear invasives such as rhododendron, that hold the Sudden Oak Death disease, block paths and also choke other plants.
  • We plant new trees in the spaces we create from clearing work, where older trees have fallen and creating new woodland areas
  • We reopen and maintain paths, remove fallen trees and branches, clear streams and generally enjoy ourselves

We run a programme of work days, one or two each month, generally Saturdays. The team have a range of educational results and varying relationships with the rest of society, but none of that matters in the woods - it's all about being willing. If someone is a bit of a slow worker, that’s OK too – the point is, are they doing their best? Everyone can do this work, and enjoy it.

Training

The basic tasks aren't difficult to learn, but we are aiming to get people training in forestry work and building up their skills.

On-site catering

.We have a highly-trained team of semi-professional chefs, who provide the group with the finest cuisine at each event. OK, we have a BBQ grill and a kettle.
